What Are Friends For? Celebrating Connection and Triumph in Global Health

There’s something deeply grounding about seeing an old friend in the middle of a whirlwind.

Yesterday at ICASA, I had one of those rare, beautiful pauses—holding hands and sharing smiles with my dear friend, Rosemary Mburu. It was a fleeting moment, but one rich with meaning. In a field where the pace is relentless, these small connections remind us why we keep showing up.

Rosemary’s plenary was electrifying—an infusion of wisdom and clarity that lit up the room. It was more than a talk; it was a call to action, delivered with grace and power. Hearing about her talk from multiple people, I felt proud—not just of her brilliance, but of the shared journey that led us both here.

And the celebration continues. Tomorrow, we honor Yvette, our fearless sister and changemaker. We celebrate her global award, which she is more than deserving of. Her leadership has shaped systems, uplifted voices, and shifted narratives. Cheering for her feels like cheering for every woman who’s dared to lead with purpose.

Please join us at the ICASA booth 102, where we celebrate Yvette for the Breakthrough Award. The time is 1200pm.

Global health is rarely easy. But it’s friendships like these—steady, uplifting, and deeply human—that give this work its soul. They bring joy to the hard days, fuel to the slow progress, and celebration to the wins.

Here’s to the Rosemarys who inspire with their presence.

To the Yvettes who transform the landscape.

And to all of us who continue to show up for each other, and the world.

🌍 What are friends for? For everything. Absolutely everything.
