SAA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ELECTION

The new SAA Administrative Council gathered at the SAA secretariat, Accra, Ghana on the 23rd March 2022, to elect its new Executive Board in accordance with the SAA constitution.

The SAA Administrative Council members in attendance were:

  1. Hon. Dr. David Pagwesese Parirenyatwa (Zimbabwe)
  2. Prof. Morenike Ukpong (Nigeria
  3. Dr. Mohamed Chakroun (Tunisia)
  4. Hon. Wamala Florence Nambozo (Uganda)
  5. Dr. Aliou Sylla (Mali)
  6. Dr. Nonhlanhla Ignatia Ndlovu (South Africa)

Absent with apologies:

  1. Dr. Emmy J. Chesire (KENYA)
  2. Dr. Ilunga Ina Mutombo Eleonore (DR CONGO)

The outgoing SAA Executive board members in attendance were:

  1. Prof. John Idoko, Nigeria (Outgoing SAA President)
  2. Prof. Tandakha Ndiaye Dieye, Senegal (Outgoing SAA Secretary-General)
  3. Dr. Namwinga Chintu, Zambia (Outgoing SAA Treasurer)

The Board of Trustees members in attendance were:

  1. Prof. Sheila Tlou (Botswana)
  2. Dr. Meskerem Bekele Grunitzky (Ethiopia)

Members from the SAA Secretariat in attendance were:

  1. Mr. Luc Armand Bodea (ICASA Director/SAA Coordinator)
  2. Madam Clemence Assogba (Head of Administration and Finance)

Observer in attendance was:

  1. Mr. Bernard Kadasia (Kenya)

In accordance with the SAA constitution, an Electoral Commission was formed to oversee the election of the incoming Executive Board. Dr. Meskerem Bekele Grunitzy was appointed chair with Prof. Sheila Tlou as Secretary to the Electoral Commission. After voting the following emerged as members of the newly constituted SAA Executive Board for the tenure 2022- 2025:

The newly elected Executive Board and the outgoing Executive board with the board of trustees were formally introduced to the SAA secretariat staff by Mr. Luc Armand Bodea, ICASA Director / SAA coordinator. The outgoing SAA President, Prof. John Idoko, on behalf of the outgoing board, expressed his appreciation for the support during his tenure. The new board represented by the President of SAA, Hon. Dr. David Pagwesese Parirenyatwa, pledged to follow the footsteps of his predecessor in making sure that SAA’s voice and his advocacy role in Africa will be upheld. The President appreciates the professionalism of the SAA / ICASA Secretariat and promise to take the organization to greater heights.
