A Nation Mourns — Africa Stands with Ghana
The Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA) represented by Hon. Dr. David Pagwesese Parirenyatwa, ICASA 2025 President, joins the people of Ghana in deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, which claimed the lives of eight gallant sons of the nation, including the Honourable Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and the Honourable Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
This heartbreaking loss is felt far beyond the borders of Ghana. It is a wound to the heart of Africa, a reminder of the fragility of life, the weight of service, and the ultimate price paid by those who dedicate themselves to the cause of their nation. These were leaders and patriots who served with conviction, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to building a safer, healthier, and more prosperous Ghana.
On behalf of the SAA Executive Board, Secretariat, and the entire African public health fraternity, we extend our deepest condolences to His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families and all Ghanaians. May you find comfort in the legacy of service and sacrifice these noble men leave behind.
At this moment of national mourning, we stand shoulder to shoulder with Ghana in grief, in solidarity, and in hope. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in perfect peace, and may their memory forever inspire the spirit of unity, resilience, and service across our continent.
