ICASA 2027 Evaluation visit to Benin

A delegation from ICASA, led by Hon. Dr. David Pagwesese Parirenyatwa (ICASA President), Dr. Aliu Sylla (ICASA Secretary General), and Mr. Luc Armand Bodea (ICASA Director), conducted an official evaluation visit to the Republic of Benin from 4 to 7 November 2025.

We are pleased to announce that Benin has officially submitted its bid to host the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) 2027—a proud milestone for a nation that continues to lead with vision, resilience, and commitment to advancing Africa’s public health agenda.

We extend our sincere appreciation to:

Minister of State in Charge of the Presidency

Honorable Professor Benjamin Hounkpatin, Minister of Health

Honorable Professor Benjamin Hounkpatin, Chief of Staff of the Minister of State for Economy and Finance

Hon. Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, The Minister of State for Development and Coordination of Government Action

Dr. Valentine Kiki Medegan-Fagla, Representative of the Head of State to the CNLS-TP

Their leadership and engagement have been instrumental in positioning Benin as a strong candidate for ICASA 2027.

Benin’s bid is deeply rooted in history and hope. From Ouidah’s Door of No Return—a site symbolizing resilience and remembrance to Cotonou’s vibrant innovation and scientific landscape, Benin tells a story of transformation: from the weight of history to a future driven by knowledge, inclusion, and progress.

Beyond its health leadership, Benin invites the world to discover its rich cultural and natural heritage—the historic city of Ouidah, the lively markets and lagoons of Cotonou, and the serene beauty of Ganvié, the famous lake village often called Africa’s Venice. These experiences reflect the warmth, spirit, and diversity that define Benin.

The Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA) commends Benin’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Africa’s health systems and advancing the fight against HIV/AIDS, TB, and other public health challenges.

Together, we continue building a healthier, stronger, and more united Africa. 🌍
