Professor Oluwatoyin Morenike Ukpong’s Election as West Africa Representative, Society for AIDS in Africa

It is with great pride and joy that Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, congratulates our distinguished alumna and faculty member, Professor Oluwatoyin Morenike Ukpong, on her election as the West Africa Representative on the Board of the Society for AIDS in Africa.

This prestigious appointment is a testament to her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing health equity and research excellence.

During her tenure as Executive Director of OAU’s Central Office of Research, Professor Ukpong spearheaded innovative research initiatives that elevated our university’s global reputation. As a former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, she led the faculty to rank among the top 201-300 globally in the 2022 GRAS ranking, solidifying its status as a hub of academic excellence.

A trailblazer in adolescent health, HIV/AIDS research, and bioethics, Professor Ukpong has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications and influenced global health policy through her work with WHO, UNAIDS, and the Population Council. Her advocacy for vulnerable populations and efforts in establishing adolescent clinics for HIV/AIDS care have made a lasting impact.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, remarked that Professor Ukpong’s election is a proud moment for OAU, reflecting her exceptional contributions to global health and our university’s legacy of excellence.
