Opening Statement by Hon. Dr. Nchabi Richard Kamwi, SAA President

Distinguished guests, representatives of governments, partners, members of the media, colleagues and friends,

Good afternoon.

Last year, we gathered in the Land of Gold, Accra, Ghana, for the 23^rd edition of ICASA 2025 under the theme “Africa in Action: Catalyzing Integrated Sustainable Responses to End AIDS, TB and Malaria.”

Despite financial and travel constraints, the conference was a remarkable success, welcoming 3,169 delegates from over 85 countries. It demonstrated the resilience of the global health community and reinforced the power of collaboration, innovation and African-led solutions in advancing public health across the continent. Let me once again take the opportunity to thank the good people of Ghana and the Ghanaian government under the leadership of President John Dramani MAHAMA without them ICASA Ghana would not have been a success story .

Today, we are proud to begin the next chapter of the ICASA journey as we announce the host country for ICASA 2027.

A country known as the birthplace of Vodun, home to the legendary Dahomey Amazons whose story inspired the acclaimed film The Woman King, and the homeland of global music icon Angélique Kidjo. A place where history, culture and resilience come together to tell the story of a nation that continues to inspire Africa and the world.

This is Benin Republic, and we are honored to announce that the next chapter of ICASA will be held from 5-9^th December 2027 in Cotonou- Republic of Benin.

Located on the West African coast, Benin is a country where deep historical roots meet a rapidly evolving future. Known for its rich cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit and growing economic ambitions, Benin represents a nation embracing transformation while remaining connected to its identity.

Over the past years, Benin has continued to strengthen its position as an emerging economy in the region, investing in infrastructure, digital transformation, trade, tourism and human development. Its strategic location, youthful population and growing regional partnerships make it an increasingly important hub for collaboration in West Africa.

Beyond its economic progress, Benin offers a unique experience to visitors. From the historic city of Abomey, the former capital of the powerful Dahomey Kingdom, to Ouidah, renowned for the Slave Route and the Gate of No Return, a centre of cultural heritage and Vodun traditions

Visitors will discover the beauty of Ganvié, the famous lake village often called the “Venice of Africa,” the vibrant energy of Cotonou and the natural landscapes that reflect the diversity of Benin.

But Benin’s significance as the host of ICASA 2027 goes beyond its culture and tourism.

It represents an opportunity to bring together thousands of global health leaders in a country committed to collaboration, innovation and Africa’s development.

ICASA has long served as a platform for dialogue, partnership and action across the continent. As Africa continues to address evolving health challenges, including infectious diseases, health system resilience, innovation and equitable access, the conference remains an important space for shaping collective solutions.

We look forward to welcoming more than 7,000 participants from across Africa and beyond. The Government of Benin has demonstrated its commitment and preparedness to host this important gathering, with strong measures in place to ensure the safety and security of all delegates throughout the conference.

Together, we will continue advancing African-led solutions and building a healthier, more resilient future.
